I am a RETIRED Assistant Chief at Newark Fire Department. My videos are dash-cam videos captured while I am operating at fire scenes. The purpose of uploading this content is to share training material for other firefighter and fire officers who want to expand their knowledge. Note: We are all trained a little differently, therefore we all do things a little differently. We don't have to agree on strategy and tactics, but please keep it respectable. My way may not be your way. That doesn't necessarily make either of us wrong or right. I am happy to answer questions or provide additional information if necessary.
Newark Ohio Fire Department House Fire with Victim Rescue. 370 Meadowbrook Drive. Command Vision.
Please read this information. There is a lot of information contained here that will most likely answer your questions.
On November 22, 2022 at 0553 hours Newark F.D. was dispatched to 370 Meadowbrook Drive for a report of a house fire with a person trapped. While responding the dispatcher advised that one adult male is reporting his wife is bedridden and cannot get out.
The house is a 1-story ranch home with a hospital bed located in the living room.
Upon arrival of Battalion-1 smoke is observed pushing from all four sides of the home with fire visible on the Bravo/Charlie corner. The male occupant was standing at the front door reporting his wife was still inside. I was able to hear her yelling “help me.” Engine-5 arrived and pulled an attack line to the front door. Rescue-1 arrived, and both crews entered with the attack line for search, rescue and fire control. Interior crews reported heavy storage/contents inside with zero visibility due to the smoke condition. The attack line was pushed to the hallway in the middle of the house to knock down the fire and protect the victim while the search was underwary. Ladder-2 moved interior and the victim was located and removed to the front yard unresponsive. ALS care was immediately initiated by Newark Fire Department paramedics and the patient was turned over to Granville Fire Department Medic-201. The victim was flown to The Ohio State University where she made a full recovery.
The fire was contained with three 1.75” attack lines.

Hey Chief. You are doing a outstanding job directing fire operations. Thanks for your service.
Chife congratulations on your retirement please do some new videos
Good job David.
This is an honest question. Why didn’t you start with attacking the visible fire?
It is nice to see ICS on the fire scene actually does work! Thank you!
WHOA DMN LIKE ON CHICAGO FIRE
Thankyou, this was amazing. I hope you continue doing them. As a relatively new incident commander, I am gaining so much knowledge.
This should be the next one for a livestream/discussion
Interesting how different FDs communicate differently on the radio. With this FD, acknowledgement phrases are somewhat varied such as "copy that", "understood", or the command given to the team by Battalion 1 will be repeated like pilots do with ATC. In contrast, when I watch FDNY videos, they are constantly saying "ten-fo" (10-4) with their unique NYC accent in response to everything. FDNY operations seem disorganized compared to those commanded by Chief Decker.
I’m glad your Fire Dept has invested in clear signal radios. With improved cell and technology, trying to decipher scratchy C B radios should be a thing of the past. This is one area AI Voice would help with 911 input via keyboard. Thank you for all First Responders. G-d Bless.
Amazingly efficient communications!
What does it mean when they say par
As a former volunteer firefighter I learned a lot about size up and clear concise communications
Amazing live stream…Please do more of these, they are incredibly educational.
Do you know if this business was able to recover from the fire and stay in business? The look of worry on the employees made me think of that. Nice job on this fire

To set your audio. Right-click on a test video that is playing. then click on "stats for nerds". The audio should be between -0 and -1. That is the industry standard. Thank you for these new videos you're making you are my favorite on the internet. I am a retired FF.
for question time Chief be easier for you to get ??? before and after the question they want answered
Your videos are amazing training tools. Congrats on your retirement chief.
Thank you for sharing these, Commander! I’m personally terrified of fire and I have learned so much from your videos. All firefighters are heroes!
Enjoy your retirement well deserved loved watching your videos best wishes from maine
You definitely had the technical side of the video handled well. The audio was a good mix of the original video audio and your comments. Your shirt logo was no longer a mirror image, your slide images clear. Your comments were organized, and the Q and A was great!
Really enjoy your videos! Enjoy your retirement! Was a volunteer in a Houston sub division 1968-1975. Still like to keep up on fire service operations and techniques.
Thanks.
Do you have any recommendations of channels that are putting out new videos. I have learned a lot from your channel this past year being new to command and want to continue to learn with current calls.
GREAT audio
Good to see you again Chief Decker. I ALWAYS enjoyed your videos and was sad to see you retire although that was a positive thing. Looking forward to more of your vudeos
Absolutely love your videos. They are extremely helpful from our side of the emergency for dispatchers. I have been showing at least a few of your videos to trainees. We rarely get to see this stuff implemented from this POV and it has been helpful. IT also increases our exposure to low frequenecy incidents and allows us to perform to a higher degree when we do get these incidents. I would love if you did some other incidents as well! Tech Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Water Rescue. Any low frequency high stressor type run would be amazing.
You have no idea how helpful these videos are for dispatchers. I have shown several of them to trainees and new people and have watched as many of them as I can. This POV with the radio traffic is absolutely perfect training material from our side of the emergency.
Enjoy this breakdown,
Thanks.
I'm a civilian but I have enjoyed watching your videos, they're very informative sorry to hear your retiring. Every video of watched of yours goes to show that you know what you're doing and know how to protect your men. I'm very fascinated with fire equipment because I used to install lights and sirens into a radios for Motorola service center in Cincinnati, so I've set up quite a few emergency vehicles. Good luck in your future workings and stay safe.
This was super informative for myself as a folk/aspiring career up in 🇨🇦
I missed the live stream. Maybe in a future video you could explain what I-20 is. Scratch that. I see it on the sheet and your explanation. Thanks anyway.
You are welcome.
Just wanted to let you know that I'm a firefighter wannabe, but was never able to have the chance to be one. Watching your videos are great, makes me feel like I'm really there. Good luck on your retirement!
Keep making content like this! It’s good to see you doing what you love.
Thanks.
im a volunteer fireman from atlanta ny and have enjoyed all your videos
Hope you're enjoying your retirement, chief. I enjoy your videos and commentary. I hope to be able to pick up a few tips that I can apply in my own service as a volunteer firefighter and captain.
I am definitely enjoying retirement. I'm glad the videos are helpful.
Thank You Chief Decker, for your service. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos.
Im always in awe of the professionalism of you and your team. Those that don't know the process are going to have comments. Personally, I'd rather see questions than near rude comments about how to do the job. As a retired Chief of police in a small southern Ohio village, I've seen more than my share of fires. Some had rescues that had to be made. Some had victims that didnt make it. As the commander on scene, you keeping your head and directing your team is what helps everyone get back home. Kudos to you Chief and enjoy that retirement brother! Also: thanks for these videos. I sure miss them.
Great video, please keep them coming.
I don’t know shit about fire fighting but I know what a guy sounds like who knows his shit. Doesn’t sound like they promoted an idiot and put him in charge.
That fire looks like it could have gotten out of control really fast, but that interior team seemed to have knocked it down really fast!! Great job and great teamwork
Excellent! I've followed your posts. Your commentary is very instructive. Thank you for this!
Yes I can.
Good job David, even in retirement your posting some pretty awesome stuff. Your one heck of a commanding officer’ keep doing what you do best
Chief you're still top shelf in my book and I'm not a firefighter or in any capacity you handle calls perfectly I watch a lot of firefighting videos you and the group of firefighters that worked under your leadership all are awesome I'm sure you're brother is just as good hope he does videos congratulations on the retirement well deserved sir I should hope you're still assisting in some capacity you're videos are great teaching tools take care and God bless
First, let me say thank you for your service! Secondly, I really enjoyed this format. Wish I could have watched live. Thank you for sharing!!
The best of happiness and health to you, Chief Decker. I stumbled upon your channel... I want to say 2020 or before. I've always found your videos to be simultaneously very educational, and entertaining. That and your ability to remain steadfast and perform your duties as incident commander in the most trying of situations to be inspirational. In my opinion, this new segment would be excellent to continue and expand on. Greetings from Michigan.
More videos please just like this and others❤️. Also, there’s a few people you should check out if ya will Nick Martin Battlion Chief out of Salisbury Nc
